Community Asphalt, founded in 1980 as an asphalt paving contractor, based in Miami, Florida, and part of OHLA USA since 2006, has since become specialized in general road construction and transportation infrastructure. From its four operation and plant facilities in Miami-Dade, Fort Myers, Vero Beach and West Palm Beach, the company boasts extensive geographic coverage throughout South Florida, focusing on all aspects of transportation infrastructure development, primarily for state and local authorities. Community Asphalt continues to provide traditional paving services which include grading and paving, pavement milling, surveying, excavation, on and off-road hauling, drainage, utilities, base finishing, and highway sweeping. The company also provides engineering, contracting, design and build and finance and more complex PPP contracts services. These projects include parking lots, industrial and retail complexes, road and highway construction, and airport runways.

Summary

Our company has an immediate opening for Roller Operator in Vero Beach, Fl.  As a Roller Operator, you will be responsible for operating rollers and other compaction equipment to achieve proper asphalt density and smoothness during paving operations. This role is essential to the quality and durability of asphalt surfaces. The Roller Operator works closely with the paving crew to ensure timely, efficient, and safe compaction, following project specifications and safety standards on roads, highways, parking lots, and other paving projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Operate steel wheel, rubber tire, and vibratory rollers to compact asphalt to required density and smoothness.

  • Inspect roller equipment before and after operation to ensure proper functionality and report any issues.

  • Follow the paving crew and coordinate with the paver operator and ground personnel to achieve consistent coverage and compaction.

  • Understand compaction specifications and adjust techniques accordingly.

  • Monitor mat temperature, roller pattern, and rolling zones to avoid over-compaction or material displacement.

  • Maintain clean equipment and work area.

  • Comply with all safety standards, DOT regulations, and company policies and procedures.

  • Assist the paving crew with other labor tasks when needed, including flagging, shoveling, or raking

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Roller Operator in paving operations.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of roller operator
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in compaction techniques, asphalt paving processes, and performing basic equipment maintenance.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to maintain precise control over the screed to achieve the desired finish and quality.
  • Team Player: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to following safety guidelines and promoting a culture of safety on the job site.
  • Physical  Requirements: Requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, standing, walking, sitting and reaching. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Capability to work in varying outdoor weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks. Exposure to construction site hazards.
  • Testing: Must pass a drug and physical test and criminal background.
  • Shift: Must be flexible to work days, nights and weekends when needed. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, lifting, stretching, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, standing, walking, sitting and reaching. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Must have good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Capability to perform manual labor tasks such as digging, lifting, and moving materials.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
  • Must pass a drug and physical test.

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor construction sites with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Noise levels associated with heavy equipment operation.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • May require extended hours, including nights and weekends, depending on project needs.
