Community Asphalt, founded in 1980 as an asphalt paving contractor, based in Miami, Florida, and part of OHLA USA since 2006, has since become specialized in general road construction and transportation infrastructure. From its four operation and plant facilities in Miami-Dade, Fort Myers, Vero Beach and West Palm Beach, the company boasts extensive geographic coverage throughout South Florida, focusing on all aspects of transportation infrastructure development, primarily for state and local authorities. Community Asphalt continues to provide traditional paving services which include grading and paving, pavement milling, surveying, excavation, on and off-road hauling, drainage, utilities, base finishing, and highway sweeping. The company also provides engineering, contracting, design and build and finance and more complex PPP contracts services. These projects include parking lots, industrial and retail complexes, road and highway construction, and airport runways.
SummaryOur company has an immediate opening for a Diesel Mechanic in Miami, Fl. The Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered equipment and vehicles such as excavators, loaders, pickup trucks, etc.. Their duties include running diagnostic tests, perform repairs as needed and maintaining detailed records of the vehicles and equipment they have serviced.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Run and analyze diagnostic tests on equipment and vehicles.
- Repair/rebuild (replacing engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems) all equipment and vehicles as determined by the Shop Manager & schedules.
- Perform routine & preventative maintenance of equipment and vehicles as needed and on time
- Operate construction equipment and vehicles in order to repair.
- Strive to maintain zero repeat/redo repairs.
- Clean equipment and vehicles in the process of making repairs.
- Maintain daily logs in a legitimate, timely and organized fashion.
- Meet daily, weekly & monthly safety inspection goal at shop & in the field.
- Assist in keeping the shop organized and clean.
- Assist with small tool and equipment maintenance, repair as needed.
- Seek knowledge of new technologies/methods used in truck and equipment maintenance.
- Recommend measures to Shop Manager to improve safety, production, equipment performance and repair quality.
- Abide by company work policies and safety rules.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Valid driver's license. CDL a plus but not required.
- Good IT and diagnostic skills.
- Good interpersonal & organizational skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Degree or diploma in diesel equipment.
- Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate with employees, mechanics and supervisors, to perform job functions and report any mechanical issue.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.

- Ability to carry up to 150 lbs
