Community Asphalt, founded in 1980 as an asphalt paving contractor, based in Miami, Florida, and part of OHLA USA since 2006, has since become specialized in general road construction and transportation infrastructure. From its four operation and plant facilities in Miami-Dade, Fort Myers, Vero Beach and West Palm Beach, the company boasts extensive geographic coverage throughout South Florida, focusing on all aspects of transportation infrastructure development, primarily for state and local authorities. Community Asphalt continues to provide traditional paving services which include grading and paving, pavement milling, surveying, excavation, on and off-road hauling, drainage, utilities, base finishing, and highway sweeping. The company also provides engineering, contracting, design and build and finance and more complex PPP contracts services. These projects include parking lots, industrial and retail complexes, road and highway construction, and airport runways.
SummaryOur company has an immediate opening for a skilled and dedicated Construction - Survey Laborer in West Palm Beach, Fl. The Construction - Survey Laborer performs a variety of tasks to support construction operations, including assisting skilled trades, preparing work areas, handling materials, maintaining job site cleanliness, and following safety procedures. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a construction team in various outdoor environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform general labor tasks to support daily construction activities.
- Assist operators, foremen, and other construction personnel as needed.
- Load, unload, move, and distribute materials, tools, and equipment throughout the job site.
- Prepare and maintain work areas by cleaning debris, organizing materials, and ensuring safe working conditions.
- Assist with excavation, grading, paving, drainage, concrete, and other construction-related activities.
- Operate hand tools and basic construction equipment as directed.
- Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of construction materials and structures.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and work efficiently to complete assigned tasks.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings and adhere to all safety requirements and company policies.
- Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with traffic control, site preparation, and other duties as assigned.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support project goals.
- Communicate effectively with the survey team to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies.
- Assist in other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous construction or laborer experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor construction environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively with a team.
- Basic knowledge of construction tools, materials, and safety practices preferred.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and equipment.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites.
- Must pass a background check and physical / drug test
- Day schedule but must be flexible to work nights and weekends
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform physical labor activities.
- Frequently required to use hands and arms to handle tools, materials, and equipment.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Must have sufficient vision, hearing, and mobility to safely perform job duties.
- Ability to work around heavy equipment and construction operations.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor construction sites with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and moving equipment.
- May occasionally work around hazardous materials, uneven terrain, and elevated areas.
- Requires compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times when applicable.
